What most people get wrong
The real problem with hail damage isn't the dents. It's everything around them.
Problem
You don't know where to start.
Most first-timers have never filed a comprehensive claim before. You're staring at a car full of dents trying to figure out whether it's covered, whether it'll hurt your rates, and which of the competing shops is actually legitimate.
Agitation
The longer you wait, the worse it gets.
Unrepaired hail damage keeps your vehicle value suppressed and can let moisture reach compromised paint. The initial insurance estimate — often written from photos or a CAT site — is almost always 20–40% too low if it isn't supplemented.
Solution
We take the whole thing off your plate.
You call once. We inspect under LED line-board lighting, write the estimate, meet the adjuster, negotiate the supplement, pick up your vehicle, repair it in 1–3 days, and deliver it back looking like the storm never happened.
What paintless dent repair actually involves
LED line-board inspection, panel-by-panel dent mapping, CCC ONE estimate format.
Every vehicle we repair starts with an LED line-board inspection. The line board projects a pattern of bright stripes across the panel — any deviation in the stripe reveals a dent that would be invisible under normal light. This is how we find the dents that outdoor insurance estimators consistently miss, and how we build the photo documentation that gets supplements approved in 1–2 business days.
After inspection, we perform panel-by-panel dent mapping. Each panel gets counted by dent size — dime, nickel, quarter, half-dollar — which drives the CCC ONE estimate format every major insurer uses. Our estimate is written to match the matrix your adjuster is working from, so there's no translation loss when they review it. On top of the base matrix, we document the exceptions that carry specific markups: aluminum or high-strength steel (+25%), double-metal or blind-access panels (+25%), extended roofs on SUVs and vans (+25%), and any oversized dents larger than a half-dollar.
The repair itself uses two core techniques. The push method uses precision rods (6" to 60"+) inserted through access points behind the panel — typically through existing body openings after we R&I the trim, headliner, or door panel — to push each dent back to factory contour. The glue pull method handles double-walled panels or areas with no rear access: we bond a tab to the outer skin with hot-melt glue, pull with a slide hammer or mini-lifter, then knock down any high spots. Both techniques preserve the factory paint entirely — no sanding, no filler, no repaint, no CarFax body-repair flag.
Final QC happens back under the line board. We repeat the inspection process to verify every mapped dent has been corrected and the panel reads flat. If we find hidden damage during repair that wasn't on the original estimate, we document it and submit an insurance supplement before the vehicle leaves the bay.

How much does hail damage repair cost in Kansas City?
Almost everyone pays nothing out of pocket when the repair is covered by comprehensive insurance. If you're paying yourself, the ranges below are what the Kansas City market looks like today — driven by the hailstone severity classification (dime, nickel, quarter, half-dollar) and the number of panels affected.
Light
$1,500 – $3,500
- · 50–100 dents
- · Dime to nickel
- · 3–5 panels
- · Repair time: 3–6 hours
Moderate
$3,500 – $8,000
- · 100–300 dents
- · Nickel to quarter
- · 6–10 panels
- · Repair time: 1–3 days
Severe
$8,000 – $15,000+
- · 300+ dents
- · Quarter and larger
- · All panels
- · Repair time: 3–7 days
Markups on top of base: aluminum or high-strength steel +25%, double-metal or glue-pull panels +25%, extended-roof vehicles (SUVs, vans, extended-cab trucks) +25%, oversized dents (larger than half-dollar) $40–$50 each as a line item. Aluminum hail repair has its own guide.
Frequently asked
Everything worth knowing before we start.
-
How much does auto hail damage repair cost in Kansas City?
Most hail repairs fall into three ranges based on the number and size of dents: light damage (50–100 dime-to-nickel dents) runs $1,500–$3,500, moderate damage (100–300 nickel-to-quarter dents across 6–10 panels) runs $3,500–$8,000, and severe damage (300+ dents, quarter-and-larger sizes) runs $8,000–$15,000+. Aluminum vehicles carry a 25% markup because the metal is less forgiving and requires heat-assisted PDR technique.
Almost all of our customers pay nothing out of pocket because repairs are covered under their comprehensive insurance policy. Deductible assistance is available on qualifying claims — see how deductibles work with hail claims.
-
Will filing a hail damage claim raise my insurance rates?
In most cases, no. Hail damage is filed as a comprehensive claim (not collision), which insurance classifies as an "act of God" — no driver fault. Comprehensive claims typically don't increase premiums the way at-fault collision claims do.
There are edge cases: multiple claims in a short window, or living in a hail-heavy ZIP code, can affect renewals. Read the full breakdown for your specific carrier.
-
How long does paintless dent repair take for hail damage?
Most hail repairs are done in 1–3 days. Light damage (3–6 hours of PDR work) turns around same-day. Moderate damage (100–300 dents) typically takes 1–3 shop days. Severe damage (300+ dents, multiple panels) can run 3–7 days depending on how much trim removal is needed to reach the back of each panel.
The slowest part isn't usually the repair — it's waiting for the insurance supplement to clear, which takes 1–2 business days after we submit it.
-
Can all hail damage be repaired with PDR?
The vast majority, yes. Paintless dent repair works on any dent where the paint hasn't cracked, the metal hasn't been stretched beyond its elastic limit, and the panel hasn't been previously repaired with body filler. That covers 95%+ of hail damage we see in Kansas City.
The rare exceptions — cracked paint on a sharp body line, a dent on a folded edge, or damage so severe the panel needs full replacement — we identify during the free inspection and explain your options. Full guide to what's repairable.
-
Will hail damage repair show up on my CarFax?
Paintless dent repair doesn't generate a CarFax body-shop record. Because we don't use filler, don't repaint, and don't replace panels, there's no body repair for CarFax to flag. Your vehicle's factory paint stays factory, and its resale value stays intact.
This is one of the biggest reasons to choose PDR over a traditional body shop for hail. Read more on the CarFax question.
-
Do I have to use my insurance company's preferred shop?
No. Missouri and Kansas both have anti-steering laws that protect your right to choose the repair facility. Missouri requires shops to display a posted notice: "Under Missouri law, the vehicle owner and/or lessee has the right to choose the repair facility to make repairs to their motor vehicle." Kansas protects the same right.
Insurance companies may suggest their DRP (Direct Repair Program) network, but they cannot require it. Full breakdown of your legal rights.
-
What if my insurance company's estimate is much lower than yours?
That's almost always the case — and it's normal. Initial insurance estimates (especially photo-based and CAT-site estimates) consistently undercount dents by 20–40%. Our job is to submit a supplement with full photo documentation, and insurance approval typically takes 1–2 business days.
We write every estimate in CCC ONE format (the dominant estimating system used by ~90% of shops), which speeds up approvals. How supplement negotiation actually works.
